Another record result for ecommerce over the 2013 US holiday period

Ecommerce retailers in the US enjoyed another record holiday period (Thanksgiving to Cyber Monday) in 2013 according to an infographic released recently by Monetate.  Sales during the five days increased by 16.5% compared to 2012, reaching over $5b.  While traffic deriving from email was down 37%, traffic from social and search was up, resulting in an 8% increase in traffic overall.

Mobile devices continue to increase in importance with revenue increases totaling 170% for tablets and 110% for smartphones over last year’s figures.  The highest average order values were attributed to tablet devices, narrowly beating out desktops/laptops.

While ecommerce continues its healthy growth, the statistics underline the importance of retailers to ensure they offer a compelling customer experience across all devices.
